Syria
Yaser Safi, born in 1976 in Al-Qamishli, Syria, is a visual artist currently living and working in Berlin since 2017. He earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Printmaking from the College of Fine Arts in Damascus in 1999. From 1999 to 2006, he worked as a lecturer in the Printmaking Department at the College of Fine Arts and the Adham Ismail Institute of Art in Damascus. He was then the Director of the Printmaking Department at the Sharjah Institute of Art in the UAE from 2006 to 2009. In 2010, he participated as a lecturer in a cultural exchange project between the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig, Germany, and Tripoli University in Lebanon. He currently continues his educational activities in Berlin through printmaking workshops.
His artistic practice varies between etching, painting, and sculpture, reflecting a critical perspective on social and political relationships in diverse contexts. His work engages with themes of instability, fragmentation, and resilience, exploring how visual narratives can address personal and collective experiences. Safi has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions, as well as biennials, across the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.
